SAP and FSC speed SMB apps

Jason Stamper Published 18 December 2008

The package will include SAP’s ERP system

SAP and Fujitsu Siemens Computers will next year start to sell pre-packaged servers, designed as a fast-start application set pre-tested and pre-configured for midsize companies in the manufacturing, wholesale and services industries.

Included with the integrated bundle will come SAP’s All-in-One ERP system hosted on a Primergy RX300 S4 rack, along with a version of SAP MaxDB database running on the SUSE Enterprise Linux operating system from Novell.

The companies said the offer should provide midsize sites with carefully integrated business applications on stable hardware, pitched at clearly defined price points.

The view is that this particular market segment has been reluctant to move from proprietary solutions managing single functions because of the perceived complexity and timescale of migration.

In a separate announcement Fujitsu claims that benchmark data released today positions its enterprise-class Primergy RX600 server as the world’s fastest web server.

The Intel Dunnington multi-core processor based system came out top when tested against the SPECweb2005 benchmark, which simulates three different workload scenarios.
