Avocent releases new version of data center management software

CBR Staff Writer Published 10 November 2008

Avocent, a provider of IT operations management services, has released version 3 of its DSView management software, now with additional support for access and control of complex hybrid virtual and physical server environments.

According to Avocent, new version is designed to support for Citrix XenServer virtual environments, enabling customers to use a single browser-based management tool for a federated view of multiple virtual and physical servers in a single screen - important for managing virtual servers that are in a constant state of change. DSView 3 Software was the first to manage hybrid virtual-physical environments when support for the VMware virtual infrastructure became available a year ago.

DSView 3 Software provides improved visibility into server environments, with alerts, so that if a host server starts to have an issue, virtualized servers can quickly be moved to another host physical server to ensure business continuity, said Avocent.

Ben Grimes, chief technology officer of Avocent, said: With this version of DSView 3 software, we expand our heterogeneous support of virtualized environments by adding Citrix XenServer support, so IT administrators now have an even more robust set of tools to manage some of the most complex issues within their environment, power and virtualization.
